Islamo-Facism Week

David Horowitz, who attended Columbia in the 50s, is returning to speak during Islamo-Facism Week, a part of the Terrorism Awareness Project. Apparently the week's purpose is to:

to confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the war on terror and that Global Warming is a greater danger to Americans than the terrorist threat.

The project claims that in fact the true
enemy is :
a fanatical religious movement associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and the sponsors of the Muslim Student Association; it is a movement including al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades -- whose common goal is the creation of a global Muslim empire ruled by an Islamic “pope” or caliphate, to be based in Iraq, once America is defeated...
The national Muslim Students Association (MSA), has responded with a "Peace...not Prejudice" campaign that is much more worth spending time on.

However, Horowitz , the author of "Ten Reasons Why Reparations for Blacks is a Bad Idea for Blacks - and Racist Too" and The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America, is coming to lecture...do you think Prez-Bo is going to use a 15 minute introduction to question his ability of having "the intellectual courage" to answer our questions?

I would hope that PrezBo does not grace Horowitz and the College Republican's continual attempts to cause controversy by bringing blatantly bigoted speakers under the guise of political debate with his presence and any academic legitimacy by opening the panel (with Sean Hannity...!?). Yes, the University President will not be calling out Horowitz, but the University also did not invite him. Also, the President of Iran is the President of Iran and has media attention, whatever you say about him; whereas Horowitz is a professional cultural commentator, conservative pundit, and general jackass who runs a right wing media center (and makes money off of all that shit) and becomes instantly more powerful (and marketable) if a University President invites himself to a student group hosted event to decry the speaker.

However, thats all a bit of a technicality, because as to the larger point, no Bollinger won't be saying anything about the campaign of hate coming to campus to attack our fellow students who are Muslim, and no he won't be responding in the manner appropriate for this forum, which might be more directly to the student body and student groups involved in hosting and being attacked, or more broadly (in his area of expertise) airing some thoughts what we are supposed to do with the hate which comes with the glories of free speech.
